It operates as a lodging establishment providing guest rooms, event spaces, and meeting venues for leisure and business travelers. The hotel consists of two 1880s structures—the Grand Horton Hotel and the Brooklyn-Kahle Saddlery Hotel—which were dismantled and reconstructed into a single facility that opened in 1986. The hotel was developed by San Diego businessman Dan Pearson through his company, Gaslamp Quarter Enterprises. It was financed via private funds, city contributions, and an Urban Development Action Grant. The hotel serves travelers seeking historic character and proximity to downtown attractions. While it competes with other area accommodations, its unique Victorian aesthetic serves as a primary differentiator. There is no recent major news regarding the company's status.
